Double knit two needle Socks in Orange with Cable for Amy

This pattern was made for Amy who is 5’7”. Completed in two days, December 2004.

Materials

Three 50 gram balls of double crepe (60% acrylic and 40% wool)
(Half a ball left. The leg is generous.)
A pair each Nos. 11, 10 and 9 knitting needles.
Cable needle (C.N.).

Cuff

Cast on 52 stitches using No 11 needles: Rib 20 rows
 

Leg

Change to No 9 needles

1st row - k7, p2, k6, p2, k22, p2, k6, p2, k7

2nd row - p to end

3rd row - k7, p2, k6, p2, k22, p2, k6, p2, k7

4th row - p to end

5th row - k7, p2, sl 2 onto cn, put in front, k2, k2 off cn, k2, p2, k22, p2, sl 2 onto cn, put in front, k2, k2 off cn, k2, p2, k7

6th row - p to end

7th row - k7, p2, k6, p2, k22, p2, k6, p2, k7

8th row - p to end

9th row - k7, p2, k6, p2, k22, p2, k6, p2, k7

Heel

Change to No 10 needles; Stocking stitch 14 stitches for 17 rows

Row 1 - k2, k2t, k1, turn
Row 2 - sl 1, p3, turn

Row 4 - sl 1, p4, turn
Row 5 - k4, k2t, k1, turn
Row 6 - sl 1, p5, turn
Row 7 - k5, k2t, k1, turn
Row 8 - sl 1, p6, turn
Row 9 - k6, k2t, k1, turn
Row 10 - sl 1, p (8 stitches on needle)

pick up 10 stitches on the side of the heel, and knit them

knit across the 25 instep stitches (There are 42 stitches on needle)

Stocking stitch 17 rows on the 14 stitches at the left side of the heel

Turn this half of the heel -

Row 1 - p2, p2t, p1, turn
Row 2 - sl 1, k3, turn
Row 3 - p3, p2t, p1, turn
Row 4 - sl 1, k4, turn
Row 5 - p4, p2t, p1, turn
Row 6 - sl 1, k5, turn
Row 7 - p5, p2t, p1, turn
Row 8 - sl 1, k6, turn
Row 9 - p6, p2t, p1, turn
Row 10 - sl 1, k (8 stitches on needle)

pick up 10 stitches on the side of the heel, and p them

p across the row (There are 60 stitches on needle)

Instep

Row 4 - p to end

You will have 52 stitches

Foot

Change to Number 10 needles, and resume the pattern on the centre panel, for 44 rows

You can adjust the foot length to suit

The ball of wool ended at 32 rows
