Lace Panel Socks

 

   

Double Knit Two Needle Socks in Orange with Centre Lace Panel for Amy.

This pattern was made for Amy who is 5’7”. I completed these in five days January 2005, and gave them to her on Carsten's first visit for dinner. We got tiddly on mudslides.

Materials

Three 50Gm balls of double crepe (60% acrylic and 40% wool)
(with half a ball left over.)
A pair each Nos. 11 and 10 knitting needles.

Cuff

Cast on 52 stitches using Number 11, and rib for 20 rows.

Leg

Change to No 10 needles

The leg has a side panel of stocking stitch on 20 stitches, and a centre lace panel on 12 The pattern takes 12 rows to complete

Row 1 - k20, k2t, k5, yarn over needle, k1, yarn over needle, k2, k2t through back of loop, k20
Row 2 - p to end
Row 3 - k20, k2t, k4, yarn over needle, k3, yarn over needle, k1, k2t through back of loop, k20
Row 4 - p to end
Row 5 - k20, k2t, k3, yarn over needle, k5, yarn over needle, Ktt through back of loop, k20
Row 6 - p to end
Row 7 - k20, k2t, k2, yarn over needle, k1, yarn over needle, k5, k2t through back of loop, k20
Row 8 - p to end
Row 9 - k20, k2t, k1, yarn over needle, k3, yarn over needle, k4, k2t through back of loop, k20
Row 10 - p to end
Row 11 - k20, k2t, yarn over needle, k5, yarn over needle, k3, k2t through back of loop, k20
Row 12 - p to end

Repeat the pattern three times for 36 rows

Heel

Change to Number 11 needles Stocking stitch 14 stitches for 17 rows

Turn this half of the heel -

Row 1 - k2, k2t, k1, turn
Row 2 - sl 1, p3, turn
Row 3 - k3, k2t, k1, turn
Row 4 - sl 1, p4, turn
Row 5 - k4, k2t, k1, turn
Row 6 - sl 1, p5, turn
Row 7 - k5, k2t, k1, turn
Row 8 - sl 1, p6, turn
Row 9 - k6, k2t, k1, turn
Row 10 - sl 1, p (8 stitches on needle)

Pick up 10 stitches on the side of the heel, and knit them

Knit across the 25 instep stitches (There are 42 stitches on needle)

Stocking stitch 17 rows on the 14 stitches at the left side of the heel

Turn this half of the heel -

Row 1 - p2, p2t, p1, turn
Row 2 - sl 1, k3, turn
Row 3 - p3, p2t, p1, turn
Row 4 - sl 1, k4, turn
Row 5 - p4, p2t, p1, turn
Row 6 - sl 1, k5, turn
Row 7 - p5, p2t, p1, turn
Row 8 - sl 1, k6, turn
Row 9 - p6, p2t, p1, turn
Row 10 - sl 1, k (8 stitches on needle)

Pick up 10 stitches on the side of the heel, and purl them

p to end across the row (There are 60 stitches on needle)

Instep

Row 1 - k18, k2t, pattern centre panel to keep stocking stitch panel, sl 1, k1, psso, k18
Row 2 - p to end
Row 3 - k17, k2t, pattern centre panel to keep stocking stitch panel, sl 1, k1, psso, k17
Row 4 - p to end
Row 5 - k16, k2t, pattern centre panel to keep stocking stitch panel, sl 1, k1, psso, k16
Row 6 - p to end
Row 7 - k15, k2t, pattern centre panel to keep stocking stitch panel, sl 1, k1, psso, k15

You will have 52 stitches

Foot

Continue with Number 11 needles, and resume the pattern on the centre panel, for 42 rows

You can adjust the foot length to suit

The ball of wool ended at 29 row

Toe

Row 2 - p to end

Row 4 - p to end

Sew seams using a flat seam so there are no uncomfortable bumps or knots.
