double-knit wool - about 1 ball, in two contrasting colours.
If you do it in orange with a green decrease section, it's called a Pumpkin hat. You could also do red and green for a Strawberry hat.
Directions
Start:
Cast on 56 stitches using orange wool.
Stocking stitch for 5 inches - this makes the base roll up.
Shape the Crown:
Change to green wool
k5, k2together across the row.
Purl one row.
k4, k2together across the row.
Purl one row.
k3, k2together across the row.
Purl one row.
k2, k2together across the row.
Purl one row.
k1, k2together across the row.
Purl one row.
k2together across the row.
Slip each stitch one by one over the first stitch and loop up to tighten a knot.
